Category: Tariff API · Cross-border Trade

Duty math, as an API call.

Tariff API is an early-stage R&D track: a cross-border tariff microservice for HS-code resolution, duty calculation and free-trade-agreement preference routing — built to plug landed-cost intelligence into trade platforms, including our own.

Landed cost is still guesswork in most trade workflows.

Misclassified HS codes, missed FTA preferences and surprise duty bills are routine — because tariff logic lives in PDFs and tribal knowledge, not in software.

  • Classification is error-prone

Picking the right HS code requires navigating thousands of headings and notes; a wrong digit changes the duty rate and the compliance exposure.

  • FTA savings go unclaimed

Preferential rates exist across overlapping agreements, each with its own rules of origin — too complex to check by hand for every shipment.

  • Tariffs change faster than spreadsheets

Rate schedules, retaliatory measures and suspensions shift continuously; static lookup tables are stale the week they are built.

Built as infrastructure, not a lookup site.

The R&D goal is a service other platforms build on: deterministic duty math behind a clean API, with classification assistance where judgment is needed.

  • API-first

Designed for integration into trade platforms, ERP flows and checkout pipelines — including Coreidea’s own compliance products.

  • Deterministic where it matters

Duty math is rule-based and reproducible; AI assists classification suggestions but never silently decides a rate.

  • Synergy with CarbonBridge

Tariff exposure and carbon exposure are two faces of the same landed-cost question — the platforms are designed to answer it together.

The planned request flow.

  1. Describe the product

Send a product description and origin/destination pair to the API.

  2. Resolve the HS code

The classification engine proposes candidate headings with confidence signals for review.

  3. Calculate duties

Applicable MFN rates, additional measures and taxes are computed deterministically.

  4. Route FTA preferences

Eligible agreements and rules-of-origin requirements are surfaced so savings are claimed, not missed.

R&D focus areas.

  • HS classification engine

Structured navigation of headings, notes and rulings, with AI-assisted candidate ranking.

  • Rate-schedule pipeline

Keeping duty schedules and trade measures current across jurisdictions.

  • Rules-of-origin logic

Encoding FTA origin requirements so preference eligibility is computable per shipment.

Where it will plug in.

  • Trade platforms

Embed landed-cost estimates at quote time instead of discovering duties at the border.

  • Exporters and importers

Check classification and preference eligibility per shipment through a single call.

  • Coreidea platforms

CarbonBridge’s multi-factor optimization consumes tariff exposure — Tariff API is its natural data source.

Questions, answered.

What stage is Tariff API at?

Early R&D. The classification and duty-calculation tracks are being prototyped; no public endpoint exists yet. Announcements will appear on the News page.

Will it be a standalone product?

It is designed API-first to serve both external integrators and Coreidea’s own platforms — CarbonBridge’s tariff-exposure optimization is the first internal consumer.

Can we register interest?

Yes — email info@coreidea.cn with your integration scenario and target trade lanes.

Landed cost should be a function call.

Register interest for early access — or tell us which trade lanes your platform needs covered first.
